Just as the country itself, Rumania has had a peculiar history in world football. They were one of only several teams to participate in the first three World Cups, but soon after dropped out of the relevant football world completely. The Romanians had played so well, yet in the end, succumbed to Italy and the Netherlands, but finished ahead of the maligned France.
